THE INITIAL SOLUTION & obstacles

Created a building committee:

A building committee was created to determine how best to address these challenges.

The initial idea was to remodel the church even though it would only solve some of the issues. Remodeling plans were presented to the Village, however, this exceeded the 50% FEMA rule. The structure needed to meet the new building code which meant elevating it. The only way to solve the challenges was to build a new church.

Remodel Church: Cost $5MM:

  • Would solve the choir staircase, ADA bathroom, plumbing, electrical & add a few pews.
  • Didn’t solve many of the needs.

Went to Village of KB with plans to remodel.

Allow remodeling if we bring the entire church up to code (50% rule):

  • Install sprinkler system.
  • Hurricane impact windows.
  • Elevate to 15ft.

Conclusion:

  • Not worth putting in so much money into such an old building.
  • Cannot bring it up to code by remodeling.
